WTF?!

Why is GM putting an obvious look of a turbo on their 3.9L V6'*?!

Really makes me wonder about some of their engineers...

Looks like the turbo arrow on a GN. I bet it has to do with a tuned intake.

its a 9 or 6 depending which side of the engine you are on.

probably for the mechanics that are lacking....makes it easier to identify which side of the engine stuff is on.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. Can it be some kind of marketing conspiracy?

No.... It'* just the easiest way to get the length of tube needed for the tuned intake. (19" iirc). What the consumer thinks isn't really their problem. I'm sure some people think 'turbo' wheels make their car faster.

I don't care about the intake as much as wtf is up with the turbo looking indentation on the top of the engine

If it'* not just a cover, then it'* most likely a tuned intake as mentioned.

If you have a certain length and diameter of an intake runner (on an NA engine), the speed attained by the air on the intake stroke can help pull in more air by using the air'* momentum. Done properly, you can acheive slight positive pressure right before the intake valve closes. It will work best at one RPM, so any fixed runner length is a compromise.
