if your operating system crashed all your data should still be there. The only way it wouldn't (that I know of) is if the actual drive failed.

Thats rediculous if he is charging 65 for windows, I can get you a copy of windows XP pro (legal version) for 4.80 .

Thanks. Jeff just called and the guy wasn't able to recover anything. All the pictures are gone, all the documents saved are gone. He is going to buy something so we can back up the system so this won't happen again. I was working on a book and all my stuff is gone! Dangit!!! Hopefully whatever protection he is putting in will help it. I had been running ad aware and spybot search & destroy (upgraded edition) and it didn't help.
Sounds like this guy didnt know how to recover your files and just reformatted it. Sorry you lost your files Good luck!!

You can still recover most formats just delete the directory, which can be rebuilt with software.

btw, IMO the Symantec suite is really invassive and annoying. (I had it for a day, before I got annoyed by it)

:?: I havent had any issues with my corporate edition. AVG though I had problems with. I moved from NH to MA and when I hooked everything back up (3 computers) All of them crashed because of a fault with one of the AVG files. It wouldnt let me start my pc so I had to go into safe mode and remove AVG, but the IT guys at work use it :?

Every night at 7:00 I run a Perl script that does an incremental backup of files that changed during the day and sends me an email to tell me the backup status. It keeps old versions of files... helpful if you make changes to something and want to go back to a previous revision.

If you want the script, send me a PM.
