My buddy (his ride is a GTI VR6 in 5-speed) came along to drive the GA GT home. Red light, look over, smile and nod, and we're off. Right off the bat, we were nose-to-nose for a while, and then he (in the GA GT) started pulling away slowly. By the time I dropped 3rd, he had just less than a car length on me and I shut her down.

Specs:

'97 Bonneville SSE = 205 hp, 230 lb-ft. tq, 3587 lbs

'02 GA GT Sedan = 175 hp, 205 lb-ft. tq, 3168 lbs

With the intake resonator gone, you would be surprised how much the top end opens up. And, as I said above, an SSEi would definately smoke an GA GT. Now, imaine taking 35 horsepwer, and 50 lb-ft. of torque away from your SSEi and then racing someone. That is what an SSE has to do, essentially.
LOL!!! The torque that GA has is the amount of horses I got! I could probably smoke it.

Default I don't get it.

It is also 419 lbs lighter.

Why is everyone so quick to insult another Pontiac? It'* not a Sunfire!

Even worse, imagine with a 170hp/225tq Series I.

Oooohhhhh!!! IT'* sooooo cute!!!! What'* your baby'* name? How old? It'* such a cute young thing. Wait until it grows up.
Ok, ok!!! I just thought I'd throw a little humor in.
I have to say the Bonneville will be a winner. My friends gf has a GT1 Grand AM GT and I have pasted the front of her car with Michelin Symmetry rubber more than once.

I passed a GAGT in a lighter shade of Polo Green, with black tints, looked pretty good. No match for me in passing an hauling *** power, but for a car that size, its a great little ride

I love the GA GT size for around town. Unmatched handling in traffic, parking, and the like.....BUT......I have to side with Don on the Transmission. It sucks. Shifts are mushy and unpredictable. I almost lean forward in anticipation, then NOTHING. It'* really not built for street racing. Those shifts need to be firmed up and raised a bit to make it a contender.

Very nimble car, but not a match stock for stock with a Series II. Maybe not even for a Series I in good condition.

I'm very familiar with the performance of the L27 and L67. And the GA GT did NOT impress me for power.

Willwren, I respect your opinion a lot. However, after reading your last post I am confused. I am starting to think that your experience with GA GT'* is significantly different than mine. I do know that the shifts on my GA GT are, in fact, firmer than the shifts on my SSEi. The SSEi'* tranny has more of a luxury setup whereas the GA GT feels sportier. As far as my GA GT is concerned, it never hesitates, feels mushy, or leaves me in anticipation for a shift. This difference of opinion leaves me wondering: Is my car the anomaly?

Narrower wheelbase maybe? Halfshaft length? Engine bay space? I know the GP has a bit more room under the hood than the GA, but not by that much. Even my 4T60 doesn't take up all the room it could.
