Default 98+ Firebird (V6 I think?) vs. '90 Turbo Grand Prix

So my friend and I went job hunting this afternoon. We got done putting in applications at a few places, and proceeded to get on the freeway entrance ramp to go home. Now the way I get on the freeway, I like to get up to speed on the entrance ramp so I am going the speed of traffic when I enter the freeway, because in my opinion it is safer that way. So I get on the gas and get up to about 60 and there is a firebird going around 40ish in front of me, so I slow down and stay right behind him. We get to the end of the ramp, I throw on my left signal and put it to the floor. Well the firebird, still in the right lane, does the same. He didn't pull on me, and I didn't pull on him...it was about even. We held it down until 80mph (the speed limit is 70) when I decided it was enough because I have only been licensed for a few days and would like to stay licensed. He let up when I did. That was a fun race...unfortunately we didn't go to like 120 or so, because that would've been fun seeing that the N/A pushrod V6'* don't have much power above 90mph, whereas the turbo still pulls hard at 120 and doesn't have a govenor (anymore). Maybe he saw the 15.22 on the window and figured he could take me?
