Rain/ice mix caused 50-car pileup in Shelton - The Connecticut Post Online
Like we say in New England, one snowflake and everyone forgets how to drive. I guess this is on a much grander scale.
I was on this section of road a few months ago. Seemed perfectly safe to me.
Local weather: It snowed four days ago, and it started raining at about noon. The rain is gone, but the roads are still wet, and it'* still a few degrees above freezing. The highways are still covered in a very thick fog, though.

I'm always afraid of this happening on one of the big highways here, it will get down very close to freezing temps and people will still be speeding around like there is nothing to worry about.
