They are based on the 60* platform thats been around since the early 80'* (maybe before that?), so they are still pushrod but somehow have variable valve timing...not quite sure how that works but it does. Right now I believe they are still 12 valve engines, but I believe a new design with 3 valves per cylinder is supposed to come out soon. Either way, the 3500 makes at least 200hp, don't remember the exact number but I think it was just over 200hp. Should be pretty reliable as well since its based on the 60* platform. I imagine those cars would run high 15'*/low 16'* with that engine due to their fairly light weight (compared to a Bonnie anyways).

The 3500 motor was 200hp/220tq. But they are still heavy cars (~3400lbs) so still in the high 15'* on a good day in stock form.
3.5 gets quite decent economy though compared to other current GM drivetrains.
a lot more efficent than the 3900 that is quite low in the torque dept.
