3.5z ??

The 3.5L does come in the Malibu and the G6, and they have decent power. Not terribly quick, but perky.

And they're not twin cam either. They're 3100/3400 based.

They are based on the 60* platform thats been around since the early 80'* (maybe before that?), so they are still pushrod but somehow have variable valve timing...not quite sure how that works but it does. Right now I believe they are still 12 valve engines, but I believe a new design with 3 valves per cylinder is supposed to come out soon. Either way, the 3500 makes at least 200hp, don't remember the exact number but I think it was just over 200hp. Should be pretty reliable as well since its based on the 60* platform. I imagine those cars would run high 15'*/low 16'* with that engine due to their fairly light weight (compared to a Bonnie anyways).

The 3500 motor was 200hp/220tq. But they are still heavy cars (~3400lbs) so still in the high 15'* on a good day in stock form.

3.5 gets quite decent economy though compared to other current GM drivetrains.

a lot more efficent than the 3900 that is quite low in the torque dept.
