Default 2000-2002 Impala Transmission Problems?

I was thinking of getting a 2000 or 2001 Impala LS, but I hear they have a lot of problems with the transmissions failing. Can anyone confirm this? I read on www.carsurvey.org, and other sites.

One of my friends has one of those cars. He lost a tranny with less than a 100,000 miles. I wouldn't recommend an impala.

WOW! This topic just screams my name, doesn't it? 75k miles and it slips in 3rd, and is very slow to shift into the other gears. They're great cars and I would always recommend them, but mechanically, their trannies are horrible. BUT! I'm making lemonade out of lemons, because I'll soon by the proud owner of an L67/4t65-hd combo
