Default 1999 pontiac grand am se security light need help

A friend is fixing to sign up and she is having security light issues.... Joannnetta is her name she will probobly sign up tommorow. Security light blinks and the car wont start. I know we have had some issues with the bonnievilles and now we can adopt a grand am friend. So lets see what we can do to help her.

Thanks
James

My daughter'* dad has a 1995 Bonneville SSEi that had the same problem. They would turn the key and nothing would happen. In their car it was some sort of relay that caused the problem.

Does her car have the chip in the key or no?

If so try cleaning it really well.

I had that with my Cutlass a little over a year ago. I just cleaned it good and tried later and it worked. Now actually since last year my security light won't go off, but thankfully it hasn't had any problems starting. I've read that when it goes bad, you have to change out the relay or something in the steering column.

the steering columns are a pain and sometimes the wires get pinched wrong and well it is a pain messing with it and the annoying signal click those are some of the reasons IO got rid of the 00 I had plus I wanted a 3800. just check the steering collumn and look for a loose connection that might be the reason
