Default 04 Aztek Starting Issue

Not sure if I put this in the right place since the Aztek has a 3.4, but its still a Pontiac.

Anyway, my mom has an '04 Aztek, and its developed a starting issue: when you turn the key you get all accessory power, but nothing will start the actual ignition sequence. As a work-around, a "remote" was placed on the solenoid contact so that the car could be started from under the hood [after the key has been turned].

They've tried using different keys, but that didn't make a difference. The actual ignition cylinder seems to be fine as power goes to the other accessories when the key is turned, and the sequence works - as long as the button is pushed from the remote leading to the solenoid.

Any ideas what may need to be replaced? Anyone else have this issue before?

Thanks!

so lets recap,
1. key, on accessories on, = no start
2. jump solenoid on starter, and it starts and runs, so, the starter is fine

starter relay maybe

try swapping the starter relay with a less important relay. im sure theres one that has the same schematic, that prol runs the wiper circuit or sumthing like that.

and no i have no idea where the starter relay is on ur moms car

Sounds like the Ignition isn't reading the key...

Had the security light ever come on while driving ?

Starter relay sounds like a start [no pun intended]. They've already bought a new starter...not sure why as that wasn't the problem. I'll ask if they've checked the relay though. Thanks!

No, there hasn't been a security light. A different key has been tried [the spare], and the same problem occurs. Plus, if the ignition wasn't reading the key - the accessory power wouldn't work, right?

**EDIT: The starter relay has already been checked - that'* fine. Something isn't completing the whole ignition sequence as when the key is turned - all accessory power goes out [as it normally would while juice is fed to the starter], however, nothing happens. Also, when the key returns from the "Start" position it does it slowly; instead of snapping back as usual.
