Default Newbie

Hello,
Newbie - Introduction.
I just got a 2004 GXP lthis week to replace my daily driver (2002 Impala LS). So far, so good. Working through a few minor issues. Car is the White Pearl color (whatever they call it). I was looking at used Caddy STS'* then I kinda went in this direction. So far the little issues I want to take care of are the check engine light and the wheels. I think I have a bad gas cap because I was getting a "check gas cap" warning and now I have a code and it says Evap leak so everything is pointing towards the gas cap. I checked the canister and the lines I could reach and everything seems cool there.

I have one wheel that has a pretty bad rash on two of the spokes, and another that is not quite as bad. Seems like it would be cheaper to buy 4 aftermarket wheels than 2 factory wheels. If anyone has suggestions I would appreciate the feedback.

So far I am impressed with the car. I like the features and the ride. The Northstar runs smooth and the exhaust has a nice sound. I have already activated my XM radio and rolled my Onstar over (had both in the Impala also). The car accelerates as I expected for the 275 hp rating and feels surprisingly less like a front wheel drive car than the one It replaced. I liked the Impala (put 125K miles on it) but I think I will like this car even more.

Has anybody added the GM 12 disc changer? My car did not come with that and it looks like a plug and play add on.

Anyhow, I did some lurking on this site before my purchase and there'* lots of good information. I hope to provide some positive feedback / input.

Welcome to BC! I'll move this to the Introduction forum for better exposure. The Northstar forum is reserved for Mechanical issues. Feel free to start a new thread in that forum when your mechanical issues arise.

I also moved from a daily 2002 Impala LS to a GXP (2005). I found it to be different, but with a bit of familiarity. I liked the fuel economy of my Impala 3800 MUCH better.

The GXP wheels are pretty unique already, so you might want to see what it costs to have them repaired/refinished. I haven't checked, but you could look at the Tirerack.com for alternatives.

I recall that someone said that filling your gas tank while it'* running could cause the gas cap error. I'm not sure how to reset it.

I'm also missing a disc changer, but haven't had any luck on an economic answer... sorry. (I found a nice used one for my Z28.) I wish I could have been more help!

Welcome to BC!

Over-filling your gas tank, as in the extra three clips to "top it off", can also set that code by sending fuel down the evap return line from your filler neck.

If you don't get it resolved by trying a new gas cap or tightening your gas cap, then start a thread in the N* section.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I updated my profile with my location.

I got a new gas cap last night, cleared the code and all clear now!
