Hello I'm Steve and new to your forum, Joined today so I can figure out why nobody can use a scanner on my 95 GMC pickup, once I find the correct section I'll post the problems I have been having as this is an introduction thread. Nice to meet you all...

Welcome to the forum! Your truck is probably OBD 1.5, which most "lower end" scanners won't work with.

Welcome to the site!
94-95 has an OBD 1.5 that I think needs a special scanner to read. Had the same problem with my old bonneville

Welcome to the forum Steve. There are not a lot of scanners on the market today that can do the 1.5 systems. Here are a few that are capable of scanning the 1.5 systems. They typically run about $250 each.

Or, you can spring some big bucks for a GM Tech1 that will also reprogram it.
