Default New old guy.

Hello Everyone,

I love cars, and the Bonnies are among my favorites. Since I'm a builder/ tuner,
having a 97 SSEI is really my cup of tea. Great to tune, great to work on, and very reliable as well.

In the course of my work, I also detail and have a Brokers license. For the last
45 years, cars have not only been my hobbie, but also my income. I have six
Daughters, and 12 Grandchildren. The car business has provided me with the
money to raise all of them. I realized early on that If I could take my hobbie (cars)
and turn it into a business, I could have the best of both Worlds. It'* been interesting.

I have been lurking here for about a month now. Gotta say that there is a LOT of
info and a some smart cookies on the this Forum. I'll be looking forward to
exchanging info and telling car stories in the future.

Question : On the 97 SSEI, I have made my own CAI, a 3.4 pulley, magnaflow
resonatorw/ Flowmaster muffler. I'm running TR55'* and Delco wires, and a
180 drilled stat. I have not pulled the negative teminal to reset the ECU. On many of
the Fords and Mopars I have modified, this is a given. On the Bonnie, It just gets
better with each mod so I haven't reset it yet.

Should I reset the computer at this point ?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi and welcome...fellow 97 ssei owner here.

I like the mods..pretty much the same as my list except I haven't touched the exhaust yet. As Vital says..post the question in 92-99, I haven't unplugged either.

Welcome Giterdun, if you havent had any problems with the PCM, you should be fine at this point. Its probably adjusted to the mods and its "learned" the new system. I would suggest a custom PCM from Intense Racing for your SSEi to take full advantage of the mods.

Thanks for the welcome fellas.

It'* good to know I'm not the only one that really likes their Bonnie. It'* my
humble opinion that the two best engines from GM are the SB Chevy and
the 3800 V-6. I've had a lot of both and I have to admit that pushrods are
not outdated.

In the last 12 years, I have bought, worked on, and shipped 760 GM 3800'* of
which 245 were Bonnevilles. Of the 760 3800'*, only five motors have failed.
The most common problem we have found is the crank sensor. This is an
easy fix though. The other is the dreaded plastic intake. What
were they thinking ?

All in all, you guys have good taste in cars. I'm glad to be part of the club.
