Default New from Northern California

I am new here but not new to Pontiacs. Purchased a 2002 Bonneville SLE about a week ago. I have always dreaded buying cars and this time was no different. I think I have always dreaded it because I always feel like I got screwed a day after I get the car home. This time I have not had a bit of buyers remorse.

The car was on a lot about 35 miles from my house. Found it on Craigslist and ran a carfax and then went to see it. Car is dark maroon with 44K miles, leather interior, traction control, premium sound, sunroof and new tires. One owner in So Cal, exterior is nearly perfect.

There are only a few of things wrong with it:
1) Black exterior window trim is faded.
2) Remote trunk release doesn't work.
3) Previous owner was a heavy smoker.
4) Probably has a minor case of the 'intermediate steering shaft' problem.

The engine is clean and strong and the engine and handling is very tight, almost like new.

My wife, who is usually very sensitive to the smell of smoke, says she loves driving the car. I am just greatful that I was able to find such a nice full size sedan in such great shape. I have already found a great amount of information on this forum that has helped put my mind at ease about the issue that the car has.

I love the car.

Just curious...do you have hood bubbling? I just bought my car a few weeks ago from california and it does NOT have this ever so common problem.

Nothing like a california car though, always in mint shape.

Welcome to the forums.. :P

Welcome to BC!

Glad you found a good Bonneville to keep you safe and comfy for the next many years!

As far as the smoke residue, there are some higher end car wash joints that specialize in de-smoke cleaning. Around here it'* about $50. I think they use ammonia-base cleansers, as ammonia cuts the tobacco tar.

Glad you decided to join the fun.

Welcome! We can help you with the issues. Black trim and smoke in Detailing and appearance, remote trunk release in Electrical, and 2000-20005 for your intermediate shaft.

And while we're at it, click the WCBF07 link in my signature.

I'm from N. CA myself, but live in Oregon now. Good to have another Westy to add to the membership! I was born just North of Santa Rosa, and grew up just down I-80 from you in Davis. Most of my family still lives there.
