Default Hello from Wisconsin!

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I have been looking for how to post new threads and this was the only way I could find to do it.

I have a 95' Oldsmobile 88 Royale with a airbag and check engine light on. I am having issues with it bogging down on me with decelerating and sometimes while accelerating. This morning my car was having a new issue where I'm driving 55 down the road and it feels like the engine shakes in the gas pedal. Also, the check engine light goes off when I shut the car off and when I start it again it stays off. Most days it only takes 2 mins to come on once I start driving and sometimes it takes 20 minutes for it come on, but it usually always comes on. I just did an oil change and have changed the plugs and wires also. I tried to check for codes with my OBD1/OBD2 reader, but found out that this car needs the expensive 'OBD 1.5'

Oh I forgot to add this part..
When I first got the car it kept dying on me right after starting it, after looking around we found the negative wire on the starter Celenoid was loose and after we tightened it the check engine light didn't come on for a long time. I don't know if the two are connected, or if it was a coincidence, but the light is on and the wire is tight now.
Another thing- Sometimes my headlights at night will dim dramatically while braking

Any ideas on what this could be?

Welcome to the forum Tina.

Unfortunately, there is not much we can do for you until we get that check engine light diagnosed. Otherwise, we could spend all day long guessing whats going on. And really, the only best way to get it scanned is via the dealer. They usually charge around $75(yea, I know, its a rip off) to scan it for you. Just ask for the codes, and walk away. We can take it from there.

In the mean time...
Does the check engine light flash at all?

I have an appointment at the dealership tomorrow to get them checked. The check engine light has not blinked at all. It'* always off when I start the car and will turn on a few minutes after I start driving.

whens the last time you changed the plugs/wires/fuel filter? you have a gauge for fuel pressure? if not that would be a good thing for them to check also

I changed the plugs, wires, and filters when I bought the car less than a year ago. I did ask the dealership to check fuel pressure when I bring it in, so we'll see.

Not kidding about it being a rip off. 100 bucks. Yikes

Dealer found P1406 as current code. EGR valve needs to be replaced. Ordered one and hopefully I'll have it put in tomorrow. I'm also going to replace the fuel filter again since I drive a lot. The computer had a few other codes stored in it too.

P0341-camshaft position sensor circuit "A" - I'm not sure where this is located..
P1561- Haynes manual didn't have this code, but looking online found cruise vent celenoid? That right?
P0401- EGR pintle position error
If that P1561 is cruise vent celenoid, I have been having issues with my cruise control, so it would make sense.
Any advice anyone can give me on replacing these would be helpful

Thanks for welcoming me! and for the help so far.

I would like to figure out what the cruise control solenoid is and where it is, but I haven't really found any info. So that will probably have to wait. My main concern is getting the EGR fixed.
