As much as I would recommend this car to anyone that wants luxury, looks, and performance, the thought of driving one far into the 200k range would give me pause.
These are the kinda statements that would make me not want to consider a GXP. After owning cars i.e. Rover TC2000 and 3500S, VW Rabbit diesel, many OLDs not to mention my current 95 OLDs and 2 Dodge stealths I wount not pause to run them into the 250K mi with only factory recommended maintenance. Very easy to maintain and for the most part came with ALL the needed parts to begin with.

The only real design problem I ran into with the 95 OLDs 3800 was the plastic intake plenum where the EGR passage would burn through. Then as far as for performance I guess the Stealth TT or 3000GT VR4 for a 3750 lbs car can't be beat for 0-60 in 5.0 sec.

well last Saturday I took the plunge and picked up a pearl white '05 GXP with 67K mile on the clock. In excellent condition but I'M still very reserved at what I can expect over the long haul and a little disappointed with the current highway 22-24 MPG (as I have a fairly light foot).

Just started on the little things i.e cleaned up the IAC, new air filter(original was filthy), inflated the tires to 38lb front and 34lb rear (originally 30lbs in all 4). Don't know whether the original owner was running dino oil or synthetic but was considering going with a 5W-30 synthetic oil.

I was kind of curious whether anyone had found any secrets for getting a little better MPG out of the GXP'*? My target is a consistent highway 30MPG or better

30 MPG? Really? You've got the wrong car. Sell it now and buy a LeSabre or a Regal. Seriously, you saw the window sticker listing 24 MPG on the hwy right? What makes you think you can squeeze another 6 MPG or 25% better fuel economy that the car was rated for?

I average 15 MPG in mine. I drive 4.8 miles to work, in stop and go traffic, and I drive it hard. I have no illusions about getting better mileage and I didn't buy the car to get stellar gas mileage. I bought it because I liked the way it looked, performed and handled. When I need better gas mileage I drive my 2002 Buick Regal or my wife'* 2011 Sonata.

Good luck with your GXP and welcome aboard.

When in town and driving like we shouldn't talk about, 11
In the hills I live in, 17
On the highway at 75 with cruise control, 23

Do I care? Not even a little. The change I'd save with 6 more MPG isn't worth it to me to drive something more common.

For those of us that are new to the Bonn GXP, has anyone created a list of things that are a must check?

Like last night I was on one of the caddy sites and someone mentioned checking the intake plenum bolts. Sure enough mine were not only finger loose but so loose that you could turn them 1/4 turn before they snugged up and only one or two were tight.
