I have a 2002 Sonoma 4x4 originally has a 4.3 vortex. My question is will a 5.3 vortex work instead of going back with a 4.3 liter? If so what all do I have to do?

Do you know what is involved with this swap?
Based on the way you have asked I would strongly suggest you stick with the 4.3.

There isn't like a seventeen step process to do it. This is custom fabrication and redesign. If you have the skills, tools, time, money, and ambition, you'll be the first person I've ever heard of doing this before today. There'* a reason for that.

This thread has some information on this: https://www.s10forum.com/threads/5-3...blazer.456741/

Before reading this thread, I hadn't heard of anyone who had done this.

Of note: There are several references to doing years of research and putting thousands of dollars into the possibly-successful projects like yours. Brace yourself! then afterwards, this kind of project involves some tweaking and troubleshooting as you work the bugs out. This will probably take at least a few thousand miles. All of the members in that thread that seemed to have some success, appear to have done the swap on 4x2 vehicles, not 4x4 like yours.

When you get it finished, I'm sure we'd all love to see some pictures!

I've done the 5.7 swap. Pretty much drop in and go. 5.3, 6.0 etc, are completely different engines. The 5.7 is identical to the 4.3 except it has 2 extra cylinders.

IMO, not worth the headache unless you have buttloads of cash, and can let this truck sit for a couple months. Welding and torching is required for the 5.3.

For either engine, if you have the popular 0411 PCM, its a simple swap from a 5.3/6.0 etc platform to the existing one using HPTuners. Both harnesses work with the ecu.
