My 95 GMC needed a heater hose replaced, the parts stores don’t carry
them! That means dealer part. I tried some thing a buddy told me about!

I wanted to completly remove the line from the manafold for the chop but
my buddy warned about the factory quick connect fitting sometimes breaking
leading to more problems !

So I did it with the line on the truck and it worked out well.

I used a small cutting wheel and split the factory hose fastening coller
(Alu), then with a pair of pleyers peeled the coller off, this exposed the
hose and I just used a sharp knife to split it! Just take your time and don’t
cut to deep!

actually those break so much the parts stores carry one of those help things that replaces it with the threads and the hose part is just replaced with a barbed hose fitting. i guess you can get the same thing at some of the bigger hardware stores because its a standard hose thread.

If you choose to repair without removing the line you avoid the chance of breaking the line! New 3/4" hose is about 1.29 a foot!

If you choose to replace the OEM entire part and the old part brakes off there is a special size EZ-OUT tool at auto zone for this:

Harbor freight also has the tool to resease the tabs of the quick connect fitting.

alot of times it starts leaking at the quick disconect or you have to take the manifold off for whatever reason

I was also wondering what happens when you need to replace the hose side. I guess I'll do what you did when the time comes.

I'm new on forum and recently replaced the intake manifold side of the quick disconnect fitting. Mine was leaking slightly. Fortunately the old fitting came out with no problems. I had heard the horror stories of broken fittings, backing out / digging out the old threads, etc. No problem for me so far.

I hope I'm not hijacking the thread but I'd like to ask a related question. Why is this type of quick disconnect used? Apparently there are lots of vehicles that use this type of connector based on the variety of sizes I saw on the auto parts shelves.

Is this used to flush the coolant system? If so, is there a kit that snaps in place and provides a water hose connection to flush the system?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I would think that it done this way just for speed of building the car on the assembely line. Probely the engines come into the plant with the fitting, then by model , the right line is fitted quickely!
