No start problem with 2003 S10
Hello all,Newb here,a little desperate, hoping someone can help me.
I have a 2003 chevy s10,a few days ago i put oil in and spilled 1/4 oil down outside of filler tube, proceeded to put 1 qt of oil IN filler tube then did my best to wipe up spill,it had gotten on a few bundles of wires in vicinity and down side of valve cover.
I drove the truck 20 miles and parked it at work for 4-5 hrs.when I tried to start it at end of work all it would do is crank,I swapped the fuel pump relay with a matching relay after I realized no sound came from fuel pump area when I turned the key on,this did me no good, still no start, just crank and no pump prime sound.
I left the truck sitting for 2 days, had to it was 20 miles from home and it was late, had to come up with a game plan.
After 2 days,I got truck towed home, used a volt meter to confirm power at fuel pump with key on (in start/crank position.
Changed fuel pump and still have same symptoms, crank no start.
I have checked all fuses, found one bad in engine compartment,it is a big,30 amp ,in the STUD #2 POSITION,I have no clue what it is for.
Can you help please?
Thanks you,
Mo

Welcome to the Forums!
The fuse panel descriptions will be found in your owners manual.
If you do not have your owner'* manual you can download one from here:
Chevrolet Owner Centre - Vehicle Resources - Manuals and Maintenance
What ever connectors got covered in oil should be cleaned with a spray type electrical cleaner and then compressed air, even a computer dust off can to blow them dry.
Hope this helps.

When you are testing for voltage at the end of the fuel pump harness, don't use its own ground. Check for power only on the power side of the harness to battery ground. Then check for continuity from the pump ground side to battery ground. If you are seeing an open on the ground side, then you have issues upstream of the pump.

Thank you Mike,
I was thinking to cut ground wire near pump and reground it close by,in case there is a bad ground issue 'upstream' ,do you think this would be ok ?

That'* fine. Just make sure you use body ground instead of frame ground. Grind some paint off the underside body, and use a crimp grommet and a self tapping screw.
