New Tranny
Hey all , was travelling in March and the tenant went on my 2015 gmc sierra 1500, took it to the dealership and got them to put a new tranny in , almost 10 grand , drive it 10k and my tranny fluid is black ??? Like wtf ? Any ideas ? I mean it can’t be screwed right it’* brand new , some things I read said drain and put new filter and do not flush it ..but why would this happen with a brands new tranny ?
Hi Tamitha!
The [Edit] feature is only available for five minutes after a post gets posted. This solved a problem that evildoers were causing long long ago.
That'* a ridiculous price, unless there is no decent alternative reasonably nearby.
That'* bad.
We get all kinds here, so please don't be offended when I ask: You're sure you pulled the transmission dipstick, not the engine dipstick, right?
Like WTF indeed.
Could be defective, but what you're describing is pretty bad for a dealer-sourced and dealer-installed transmission. 10,000 miles or kilometers is not far for a transmission like that. For the fluid to turn black in 10,000 miles or kilometers means it either didn't have good fluid in it and/or it probably had some pretty badly burned-up clutches.
Yes it can. They are complicated machines with the ability to take a minor defect and turn it into drama pretty quickly. Remember, the transmission is supposed to happily take 285HP and 305lbft of torque and deliver it to the rear axle . . . but if something goes wrong it can deliver a significant portion of that to burning clutches in the form of heat.
First, if the transmission is still under warranty, take it back to the dealer without doing anything to it. Even if you have good intentions, doing anything to it gives them an excuse to try to tell you that it is not covered.
What engine does this truck have? 4.3, 5.3, or 6.2 ?
What transmission does this truck have? 6-speed or 8-speed?
How many miles on the truck?
How many miles on this transmission?
How long does the warranty last (in time and miles)?
Do you tow with this vehicle?
Does this vehicle have any modifications to the engine/transmission/axles/suspension/etc.?
That'* bad.
