Default 98 Yukon Randomly wont start

Tried to start it this morning. Turned over fine, but won't start. After releasing the key, the engine would complete a revolution every 2-3 seconds and then die. Started up fine in the evening. Any ideas?

That engine is very senative to fuel pressure. I would get a test gauge and read the pressure when this occurres.

has to be in the mid 50'* to run, turn the key on a couple times and pressurize the system and see how long the pressure stays after you stop turning the key on. if the pressure wont stay there for a while its likely the regulator.

When is the last time you changed the fuel filter? Pull the vacuum hose off the fuel pressure regulator and smell for fuel in the hose. If you smell fuel, change the FPR. Nest step is to get your hands on a fuel pressure gage to see what fuel pressure you are getting.

you can only look at the pressure initially on that engine because the fpr is in the intake

Sorry for the long delay. I appreciate the info. I may not be able to check the fuel pressure for a week or so, new baby coming soon / finishing house projects. On a side note, the truck has started fine since then. My father in law told me to pound my fist on the top of the steering column if that happens? Any idea there? Again thanks. I will update with the pressure when i get a chance.

Looks like the ignition in the steering column is faulty. I have not had it apart yet, but it appears to be culprit. Thanks.
