Hey everyone! I have a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE truck and have been having an A/C problem for about a month... let me explain!!
when it first started blowing warm air, i got an A/C evac/recharge done with the dye and it showed no leaks and i had good cold air again... well 2 weeks later it was back to normal.... so we looked at the schrader valves and noticed inside the 1 cap was wet so we thought maybe that was a potential leak.... so we places that did another A/C evac/recharge and i had cold air again.... well 2 weeks later again, i had warm air but whats odd is inside the schrader valve cap was dry this time so i guess i had 2 leaks.....
is the next move the condenser? I was reading that there really faulty on these years trucks and thats the way to go? Also read somewhere that it could be the bracket on the ac compressor hose into the condenser where the leak could be.... Please help if anyone can because i dont want to replace the condenser unless i definately have to!! Thanks!
If I were to look at it I would take temperatures around the system and see if there'* a restriction somewhere. I think there likely is and condenser is a place to start. We scan the face of the core with an IR thermal camera and see if there are any cool spots. Same for rest of system until you find the area of interest. You can do the same thing with an IR thermometer. You look for cool spots on the high side and warm spots on the low side of the system.
BTW I doubt you have a leak or it would be very obvious. Look under the car and see if there'* any dye around the passenger side inboard of front tire. If so, Evaporator is bad.

Thanks for the reply! I definately see what u mean and will take that into consideration! More then likely its the condenser is my guess but we will see!
A good shop will use nitrogen to compress your entire a/c system and spray soapy water on all lines and connections. An even BETTER shop will NOT recharge an A/C system due to EPA guidelines when there is a known leak.
How does a crack like that show no leaks with dye? Surely one would have heard the hissing sound when the system was charged. I highly suggest you don't take your vehicle back to that shop again.
Wait, are we talking about the crack I've "squared" in orange or the wet-looking bit I've "circled" in green?:
If we're talking about the orange, that'* a gap that is intentionally cut into the metal to allow for thermal expansion. If we're talking about the green, that has no evidence of dye so that'* unlikely.
That looks like a debris strike (rock most likely) which is typically cov3by your comprehensive insurance. If you haven't claimed it already, you may wish to. I would save the condenser and all receipts as they will need to see them
