Default 2011 GMC Terrain 3.0 V6

I need some serious help here lol I have the vehicle mentioned above. one day I was driving and it abruptly died on me. Yes driving and yes it died. This was a while ago and it still doesn’t run. Tried the day it happened and it wouldn’t turn over so I bought a starter thinking that was the problem. Battery was good. Then I changed the ignition switch and the spark plugs. It sounded like it wanted to run but never would. And now when I cranked it over it literally sounds like metal scraping together in the engine. I also saw smoke come from my pcv valve and white smoke from the exhaust. It isn’t seized up but it doesn’t start. Turn over every time until the battery dies. I was thinking piston rings? But I dont understand the car just dying out of nowhere? Thanks for the help in advance

There are several things that can cause an engine to stall.
Metal scraping sounds like you were driving while the engine was suffering a problem.
Compression test is in order.

I wondering if an intake gasket let loose, sucked in coolant, coolant stayed in the cylinders and rotted everything out.

I agree with the others: Compression test, maybe an intake gasket, check fluids. They "seem normal" from your report. So oil is at [full] and coolant is at [full cold]?

For future reference: A bad starter won't kill the engine while it is already running and fairly happy, and spark plugs and rings won't kill it without lots and lots and lots of warning first.

My guess based on what I know so far: Timing chain or valvetrain let go somehow (rare), or an accessory such as the air conditioning compressor came apart inside and the engine can't idle while trying to overcome that.

Something to try: Remove the accessory drive belt. Try starting it now. What happens? If it starts, don't let it run for more than a minute.

My questions:

Did it make any bad noises when it quit (clank, tapping, pounding, squealing, etc.)?

How many miles on it?

How many miles since you've owned it?

How many miles since the last oil change?

Running perfectly before this issue?

Any codes stored?

no noises just literally stalled out. I know the starter wouldn’t kill but I bought one after it died because it wouldn’t turn over at all. I bought the car from a guy that had the timing chain done at 95k miles and now it has 99k. The garage where it was fixed used full synthetic oil(he had proof the timing chain got replaced) so that’* when the last oil change was. good looking oil. Full. And coolant is good as well. I’m gonna do all the trouble shooting you suggested today or tomorrow for sure. Before it mysteriously died I never had a problem. It really has me perplexed. I know a few things about vehicles (backyard mechanic stuff). I’m gonna have to get a compression tester and try that. Thank you very much. Appreciate the help man. I’ll let
you know how it goes 👍

Wow, did it come with a warranty for the repairs? Take it back to the shop. I may have hit the nail on the head suspecting:
