2005 Silverado LS 2500HD Piston Slap
I bought my Used, One Previous Owner, Silverado Last year from a reputable dealer in my area a little over a year ago. It recently started having Piston Slap when first start it. The knocking complelty disappears after about five minutes. Nonetheless, I am still concerned this could be detrimental as time progresses. It'* my understanding this is a well documented issue in this year and engine. Is there any sort of compensation that gm offers for this problem.....I'm not looking for anything ridiculous, just to have the slap resolved without having to "beat around the bush" and try 10 different things.
I didn't know that piston slap was an issue in the 6.0 which I assume you have in a 2500, it'* well documented in the 5.3, couple of different theories on why that happens, either the short piston skirt design or carbon build up in the piston ring grooves, I lean towards the short piston skirts. I have a 2005 K1500 with the 5.3, in cooler weather I hear the piston slap for a few minutes, I just drive easy until it'* gone. I know it'* annoying, but I've never read or heard about any engine failure in the 5.3 due to this issue. If you're hoping to get any compensation from GM for this, by a powerball lottery ticket instead, your odds will be astronomically better.
