Sounds like a solder joint is bad. Stepper motors will do that if they're commanded to step one way and not the other.

Just checking: you are experienced with soldering electronics, unsoldered the old stepper motor from the circuit board, cleared excess solder, cleaned the pads, then soldered the new one in?

By "normal" your scanner shows cool temperature gradually warming as the engine warms up, then leveling off at normal warmed-up temperature after a few minutes, right?

If "yes" then coolant-temperature sensor is working.

Sounds like it is working. We'll see when Emann replies.

The gauge is controlled by the computer, and the computer tells the gauge what to do based on programming and input from the sensor.

We're way off-topic and probably should have started a new thread for the gauge-cluster issue. At first I thought it was possibly related.

What ever happened with the misfire etc. issue?

I found out the mid fires could of been caused by my performance chip on my maf, they cut it out and it’* been ok , so far

the temperature sensor seems to be working normally, on my scanner it stays at 190 degrees which is normal for my truck, the gauge just is reading wrong on dash

Ouch, would have been nice to know about this MAF chip up front.

I bought new stepper motors and put one in , it didn’t work. When I would plug the wire harness into the cluster that gauge would move but it would max out everytime
