1994 S-10 transmission problem(210,000 miles)
Hello Guys,
This morning I have a double wammy. My son borrowed my '94 *-10. This morning when he cranked it up and put it in reverse he heard a "loud noise" and then "no reverse" to complicate matters while trying to figure out what was going on he managed to jam the parking brake all the way to the floor and now it won't release. when I went over there to check it out I found that when in reverse its like neutral. when I give it gas there is a slight whining noise. Drive seems to be OK. of course I need to get the parking brake before I can do anything else. regarding the parking brake I believe I can loosen the cable underneath the truck where it joins the cable to the rear tires. Im just wondering if anybody knows if there is any mechanism inside truck under dash
that I could access to get brake released. Second question, did something break inside my transmission to cause this problem. I've read something about a sun shell what ever that is. any help greatly appreciated.

Not sure how to get that parking brake released, but when you do get it out and drive it. If it is the common sun shell gear, you will only have 1st and 3rd, no R 2nd or 4th. You'll notice that if you have to rev 1st out to get it to shift, then you will be in 3rd. My 2002 S10 did that a few years ago. Had to drop the whole trans and transfer case, gut out pretty much the whole innards of the trans and replace the sunshell.
Thanks for the reply Mike. Thats pretty much what my trusty transmission guy told me when I explained the situation to him. I did get the the brake un-jammed by loosening the cable adjustment underneath the truck. Now I just have to decide if I want to drop $1900
on a 23 year old truck. Its like part of the family. Thanks again.
