Default A word from the once "not so wise"

Don't break off a key belonging to a 92-99 bonnie. To get it replaced is $27, and that'* not even at a dealership

But at least I have my back-up key again...

I've been meaning to go have a spare key cut. I figured they'd cost more b/c of the little chip, guess I was wrong.

$27 for a .97c Walmart key and a .15c Radio Shack resistor? Come on now. Take the resistor out of the key, take the two wires out of the ignition switch, solder em to the resistor and voila! No more VATS. Well, its still their, just disable all the time.

I read an article the other day that talked about how manufacturers are doing all they can to make it impossible and illegal for a locksmith to duplicate cars keys.

While in Scotland the rental car keys only roughly resemble an actual key. The are not easily copied as the "key" portion is essentiall only an electrical jack to connect the electrical chip to the ignition and appears to be a complicated CNC machined shaft.

Expect key prices to continue going up....
