If I was designing the system I think I'd have it wait until _after_ the initial power surge before turning the lights on. Also that way the lights wouldn't be sucking power that could be used to crank the starter, which might make a little difference on really cold nights...

The typical spammer, according to the stereotype, is an uneducated mope who sits in front of his PC surrounded by beer cans and chicken bones from KFC takeout meals. Hence the name "chickenboner." A bunch of us spamfighters had posted photos of ourselves under the joke domain http://www.chickenboner.com, and I listed the URL for mine here since the Bonneville was in the background of my picture. (The license plate refers to spamfighting, not street racing. )
If you'd like to see the context a little better, start here: http://www.chickenboner.com
The "Lumber Cartel" reference comes from an irate spammer who accused spamfighters of being paid by the "Lumber Cartel" to suppress their spamming the Internet, since the lumber industry would supposedly suffer if third-class mailers stopped buying paper and started advertising by spam instead. The photo collection of us spamfighters can be found under the "Cartel" folder here:

my 92 bonneville and now 91 civic both have DRL'* from the factory.
on the bonneville when you put it into gear, the DRL'* will come on. i believe they are just the regular front lamps on that car.
on the civic the DRL'* come on when you turn the key to ignition, they are the high beams at reduced brightness.
DRL has been a canadian law since 1990.
YOU NEVER FULLY UNDERSTAND HOW USEFUL DRL IS UNTIL YOU SEE IT IN ACTION. 95% of the cars driving around here have DRL, and when you come across some car without their headlights visible (like some american) it'* a real pain.
