Guess you are talking about this bulb?

This is a bright little bulb and pulls around .250 mA.

Who has a cheap replacement that is bright enough to work?

Like we're saying, Radio Shack has replacements, but you will have to actually replace the lamp that is in that socket base. There is nothing anywhere that I have been able to find that directly replaces the lamp and socket together, other than the one that Travis can get (per his original post).

Ron, .250mA ?? I believe the 12V ones I picked up varied from 25 mA to 60 mA.

272-1092 is one of them, and 272-1141 is another.

The above link contains detailed instructions on the repair, plus it specifically references the RS# 272-1141 as a replacement.

I'm pretty sure those are the two I picked up. Both look just lke the stock in the display.

I'll pick up both this afternoon and since you have to solder anyway, I'm just going to solder the new bulb in.

Do they have colored bulbs? Like blue? If they do, I'll order bulk just for myself

Give us some good pics and a little info when you do, so that someone can put together a little TECHINFO article. This subject comes up often enough that it would be a help.

Confirmed the part numbers lasher mentioned are the ones I have.

The color of the display is determined by the display..not the bulb.
