ha, was wondering why I had an SSEi, but it only said SSE on the engine cover.....maybe it was gonna cost pontiac too much to add an extra letter @ the silkscreen store??

Nope, Cavaliers have it.

The Models are SE and SSE. Think of SSEi as a trim, or option. Especially in years where SC'* were optional.

Most folks like you, and I would prefer a louder engine in terms of exhaust and intake "noise" , However, I think GM'* goal was to eliminate the unwanted engine noises that sounded like something was wrong. We hear these sounds on a lot of cars, especially front wheel drives....I don't know why........ but the Bonneville is more of a luxury car and shouldn't sound like a car half it'* price.

So, I conclude that some sounds are unwanted, and undesirable, while intake and exhaust sounds are ...... raw..... and we like that.

I did the swiss-cheese mod to my caprice and I also removed the top plastic cover, which was a baffle, or a muffler to limit intake growl.... I now have that raw growl back....he he he .. The swiss cheese mod is about the same as doing the gutted-airbox on our Bonne'*..

Mine was dirty and ugly I had to take it out since its nothing important.

I live in California, my engine doesnt need a blanket. If the engine catches fire its messed up anyway I figure.

It is a little louder but nothing major. I like it.

Yeah, I realize a Bonneville is a Luxury car, but see mine is 16 years old. I am not a grandpa [no offense to grandpas], and I do not want a quiet engine. I want a LOUD one. I want everyone to know I am coming. If I wanted my car to be quiet, I would have three mufflers, and the stock airbox [airbox versus no airbox is a BIG difference.. I am guessing a CAI will be similar].

I am just about the opposite of the Market Pontiac was going at when this car was built.

i like a good growl when i get on the throttle too, but when I am cruising on the interstate I like the car nice and quiet. My car is great at that.

181,000 miles macho mike?

I thought my 98 had a lot with 127,000

Besides the stupid Phelum however the hell its spelled or pronounced have you had any major problems with your car?

Do you use additives or have any special tips?

I try to keep my car under 2000 RPM at all times so I drive 55-60

Slow but I want my car too last.

Off topic in my own topic I know

Noise isolation is a big part of the whole luxury package deal :(

55-60mph at most? Geez, your car won't last long. Some big rig is going to plow you off the road for driving it so slow.

Willwren - my 95 SSEi doesn't have the SSE screening on the hood lining. I'm thinking it went 92-94??? What does the magic part book say? (Prolly says I got screwed)
