Default what the heck?

what the heck is this and why do you think it poped up, i was cleaning my trunk and took out my spare tire and found this metal plate sticking up and I looked down it and saw the ground...WTF?

It was twice this high when i found it, this was after pushing it down (and poping up again)

I did fix it but what do you think might have caused it to come up and what it is for in the first place

i think maybe they might be drain points...you know, if the fills up with water or something...you can drain it...you can't tip the car over
