what makes my seatbelts lock up? im just curious like if i take a corner fast and get some G'* goin it wil lock, or while the tires are spinning it locks sometimes...i could understand it locking under heavy braking...but i have no traction control, so what makes it sense trouble? just wondering.
I believe that there is some kind of spring and gear assembly in there that is sensitive to directional force. If i pull hard on the belts they lock with the car off
I would like to know the whole locking mechanism, and how it knows when to lock and not when to lock. Anyone know for sure?

When you pull the belt all the way forward, then release it, a grinding noise of some sort starts to happen, then try to pull it forward again, the belt is locked up. So maybe a type of tension locker gizmo thingy?

I actually took the selt belts out from a junkyard car.....
It works by a tilt mechanism, that when the car lurches forward or back, comes into contact with a set of gears that control the belt coming in/out.
I've got one taken apart here @ my feet if anyone needs photos.

Mine are actuated by excessive pull. I can reproduce the locking, by jerking the seat belt. They never lock when going around the corner too fast, like in other cars.
