If I am going between 35-60mph, and I hit the gas, I put myself back in my seat pretty bad, it freaks me out sometimes. I only have a new cat back exhaust, expensive plugs and wires, and a nice intake and that is about it for mods for me, and i blow alot of cars away, and I honestly thought this golf would take me, if it was a 1.8L Turbo, and if it was a VR6 GTI, I wasn't even gonna bother racing him, because I know I would of gotten my *** handed to me. Those cars are soo damn fast, I have a clip of a VR^ GTI blowing away a Civic SI at 95 mph on the highway, the civic I think was doing 115mph and the VR6 had 4 car lenghs on him, it freaked me out how fast those cars really are.
Your motor (and mine) would be the LN3, not the L27

Your mileage and mine are really similar (no more than 5k mi apart)... yes, the torque is nice, but weight is really holding us back - maybe moreso with me being an SSE :(

Question: How are them Denso Iridiums? I know (and other members here) for a fact that Bosch Platinums (+4'* in my case) SUCK majorly. I stick to AC Delco Rapidfires. Interestingly enough, I was able to exchange less-than week-old +4'* in exchange for the Rapidfires... aren't they a no-return/exchange thing? Gotta love Canadian Tire :P

You guys might want to watch it before you take on a 1.8T that you know is chipped. Chips on a turbo car can make mad power... from the existing 150 or 180 @ flywheel or whatever to 200+ at the wheels? Yipe
The Densos are AMAZING, but expensive, like 13 bucks a plug. But they create 2% more acceleration per plug, and I have all 6 plus replaced with Densos are damn my car moves alot much quicker and alot more power as well. I can't wait to chip my car and get my turbo on, that is gonna be some mad power there.

One of my buddies recently bought a new GTI 20th anniversery, has 1.8T and 6 speed, and other aftermarket goodies on it stock. Were DEFINITLY going to race come warmer weather, should be interesting, now I got him but he'* already eyeing a true 50hp chip. Than things night be different. Come track season though he'* my buddy, we'll have lots of races! My goal is by opening, have 1.9 rockers, TOGS, LSD and DHP.
VW is going DOWN! :P

That is why turbo cars kick ***. You can buy just a chip and SIGNIFICANTLY raise your horsepower and torque. I used to (like 6 months ago) think that a 50hp chip was B.*., but I know now that is far from the truth. A 1.8T with a few mods and a 50hp chip should stick with you even with 1.9'*, TOG'*, an LSD, and DHP. Their weight advantage is what will get you. You will definately be making more horespower and torque, but with your 800+ pound weight disadvantage, I would say it will be a close race. Good luck!

I am saving up to get myself a chip that gains 40hp for my car. Its $290, but its WELL worth the money IMO. When I get that, it will be like driving a completely different car, and I won't have to worry about Turbo Beetles anymore.

The Densos are AMAZING, but expensive, like 13 bucks a plug. But they create 2% more acceleration per plug
2% is a huge gain just for installing different plugs. I would be hesitant to believe a 2% gain with just plugs. I'm not saying you are a liar or anything, just that that sounds a little far-fetched to me.
