Default bad egr?

when i was warming up my car this morning, i noticed when it was almost up to temp that the egr system randomly puffed smoke a few times, it seemed to quit after the car was completely warmed up could this be the problem with my car. I also have one last thing to try with my ses light that should be done by tomorow morning. also the egr system is the cylinder shaped thing that goes between the manifold and tb on the front of the motor and connects to each?

Not sure about puffing smoke :? But yes that cylinder is the EGR. You should have a black 'mushroom' type cap on yours.

something else, how could i tell if something is wrong, and where are all of the gaskets located on these things, and would the standard rtv type stuff work to replace them, ive already ruled out blocking it off if it is going out because the only thing worse for me than a bad egr is a cracked manifold and some bad valves
