Default Valve Cver Bolts

Okay so next week on my vaction i plan on replacing a lot of things on my car one of them is going to be the valve cover gaskets since there leaking....Now the question is should I use new Bolts to or re-use the old ones? I thought i read somewhere that you have to get new ones but i could of mistaken is for something else.... Thanks Nick

I think you're thinking of head bolts which usually need to be replaced. Valve cover bolts are reusable.

You may want to get new rubber grommets for the valve cover bolts.

ya i got them when i got the gaskets.... the guy working didnt know what I was talking about tho... :? so I had to enplane it to him...

I got mine from the auto part store mine are black tho. I remember seeing orange and blue on here but black is fine with me...

95..I'm pretty positive the FSM says they are TTY, however as you mention..there is no problem reusing (TTY definately because they are X torque + degrees) Reuse w/o even considering needing new ones. 3/8" 6 point socket is best for this procedure.

Haro.. you can get them with the gaskets or seperately at the parts stores.

Bill, are you saying the 95 valve cover bolts claim to be TTY in the FSM? That'* gotta be a misprint...how could plastic valve covers withstand that?

Andy..in the FSM it says torque to some dumb low number then add some ridiculous amount of degrees. The grommet picks up most the slack, and the bolts have a spacer built in to keep the cover from being raveged.
