I'm not a fan of tinted tails on black cars, since people tend to go too far with it. With that said, I say go for it but only enough to take the brightness off the red, maybe one or two light coats, JMO

When I get Mouse'* done you can see how you like it...in the end you have to do what you like. I agree you don't want to go TOO dark on your car..so a few coats lighter just so you can see some red still would look sick.

I think the only reason I would maybe stay clear of doing yours..is the fact you have GXP tails..which in themselves are sexy to begin with..now the non GXP tails leave a lot to be desired IMO..and tinting is the way to go with them

For example, here is my better half'* car that is black that I did and it looks great..you can see a little red left in them yet in the last picture:

^^ thats exactly how i want it... i might avoid the whole spraying thing and get them tinted using a special film using almost a 20% tint, light still shines through them very clear but it looks kinda dark with lights off.
maybe reason im doing it is everything on my car have the black and chrome theme, and if i do the tail lights itll all match up.

In your case I actually would recommend using a film...they make special film just for tinting headlights/tail lights/side markers etc.. I think it would be good in your case being you aren't sure if you want it or not...after you have it done and fall in love with it, you can always take the tint off and have it done permanently like mine.

The outcome with using the film isn't as perfect as spraying...my buddy had his 09 G8 GT done with the film, and we later removed it and I did it over spraying it and the results were soooo much better. ..and if you leave the clear area of the lights un-tinted there will be a line when you use film...unlike spraying, where I coat everything in the end with 2 coats of clear to eliminate the line and also if you look at the pictures of my girls car I posted above, underneath the clear part there is about an 1/8" strip of red that you would never be able to get tinted any other way then spraying it.

On your tails though I believe there is a black line that separates the clear part and the red part which will work in your favor when using a film.

I say go for it..I think it will look sick.
