I realize that the cast-in thing eliminates most of the "drilled" rotors out there, but I also recommend a particular brand, PowerStop, that I had excellent results with, and that are cast-in.

Whether or not to get "drilled" rotors is a matter of driving environment and style. In my case, fade resistance was a big factor.
I do agree that most of us here don't need cross-drilled brakes, and that goes for probably 99% of the general population.

BTW, I think there are some compensating factors to the loss of swept area. One of the most noticeable things about drilled rotors is the buzzing sound they make under hard braking. There'* a LOT of friction going into that noise...
