Yeah, those trannies were meant for Quad 4'* and the pushrod 60* V6'*, (2.8/3.1) all low hp & torque applications. GM didn't even feel it was strong enough for the DOHC 3.4L so it got its own Getrag (the 284), and that engine is only rated at 210ft.lbs. So, personally, I would be a little leary about even trusting the 284 with an L67 (which make 300+ft.lbs. stock). I know of a guy that exploded a 282 with a Turbo 3.1 with just a 3k clutch dump at a sticky track, the tires stuck and the tranny coudln't take the stress. The case literally shattered. Since I know that his Turbo 3.1 was mildly modded (just a chip and a few other minor mods), and my significantly more modded Turbo 3.1 makes a hair more torque than a stock L67, I don't think I would trust the reliability of that tranny mated to that engine at all. In fact, there were rumors that the reason the Turbo GP'* were not available with a 5 speed was because GM did not feel they had one that could handle the torque at that point. So obviously, since the 282 was out at that time, they didn't feel it was strong enough for the Turbo 3.1...so obviously its not strong enough for a L67. If I were to get a car setup like that, I would definatley have at least one spare 282 lying around.

Well story is Bonne is about done with mods....maby nitrous, and any more mods would involve pulling the engine and or spending LOTS of cash. Other story is the Regals almost as modded as im going to take it, im not risking the $2500 extended warranty by doing an Intense stage 3 LOL. But if I can get away with it I may do 1.8 rockers and an LSD (thats if I can convince my buddy who runs the local Buick dealer to "overlook" those mods when speaking to the warranty company as he said they will sometimes bring someone out to look at cars to ensure they havent been modded) Right now with the addition of a u bend delete freer flowing cat and installation of my P.P.3 im hoping to break a high 13. But RegalEvil is my driver Bonne is the toy, which is funny cause right now the drivers faster than the toy (or pretty dang close) I do agree about the 5 speed conversion not being the best idea, but at least with his car you know its done right.
