I have asked a couple questions about the different series of 3800 motors and different superchargers available on Bonnevilles and got alot of great help but it caused a couple of follow up questions.
The 1987-1991 bonnies had a non series 3800. all N/A
early to mid bonnevilles had the Series I motor
and 96 or so on Bonnevilles had the series II
and different Eaton Superchargers were available on bonnevilles 1992 and up.
So i am curious.....
what r the different advantages and disadvantages to the different motors and superchargers available? which ones were problematic? which ones were indestructible? what in your opinion was the best combo available? and what years was it available?

Off the top of my head...
87-91 LN3 was pretty indestructible when taken care of
92 L27 lacked EGR, which led to higher combustion temps. Possibility of burning valves
93 L27 Was pretty cool, nothing special but nothing horrible either
94 L27 Was the introduction of the lovely OBD 1.5. PCMs are awesome in those, when they work
95 L36 This seems to be a pretty fun one, it is not held back as much by torque management, but shares the PCM issues with 94. Also 2 words, Dex-Cool. That is when that nonsense began.

Correction. 95 started the Series II.
We may be learning that Dex-Cool is not the problem with our engines. More like the gaskets themselves failing early. Regardless what coolant we use.

Had an 02 supercharged ssei. Nice power with good gas mileage. Sold it with 102K miles and its still running strong at 120K. Replace the fluid often. Moved up to the Northstar V8. Wont go back. I lose a few mpg, but raw V8 power cannot be replicated.
