Default Sunroof idea?

Is the ceiling/roof in non sunroofed Bonneville reinforced in that area to where putting a sunroof in would be a dumb idea? Or would this just be too difficult of a task to deal with?

I don't have a definite answer, but from an economics perspective, it'* cheaper for GM to make one unibody and cut a sunroof hole in it, than it is to develop, manufacture, and test two different unibodies.

As long as a roof transplant doesn't compromise the structural integrity of the unibody, it'* theoretically doable. Easier than stealing the Bonneville blueprints from GM and cutting a hole yourself.

I see, where do you think the best areas to cut from, I think if gm just used one roof and put a hole in it and another one and didn't then I could just remove my little storage thing from the roof up to the fog switch and wire the 12v elsewhere and cute and paste... weld

I'm pretty sure the added structure isn't in there, but enough people add aftermarket sunroof'*, so it'* possible w/o issue.

GM didn't use one roof and cut a hole in it. The moon/sunroof option has it own roof with the tracks/support embossed/welded into them. That said, there is enough support between the roof and headliner for an aftermarket one as Bill stated. It isn't a matter of "where you should cut" If you going to do it yourself, the kit will have a template for cutting the roof and instructions. For the price of one vs the same w/installation, I would pay the little extra. They have the experience and tools for it to come out sharp. I did that with my 2005 LaCrosse.

I keep wondering, are you talking aftermarket or cutting a GM one out of a donor and putting into yours?

i saw just cut a hole in the roof and put saran wrap over it...Protection from rain and just pull it off on nice days..And in the winter to hold the weight of snow throw a peice of cardboard on it with saran wrap and your good to go
