That has more to do with your battery and starter than anything. Very little to do with the motor type or generation.

Starter on the 91 LE was weak so I went to the Gear reduced... Now the 95 and 91 start about the same... 91 has a 970 amp battery tho...lol ... They start nice and quick

I've owned both..

S1 and S2..

Honestly.. I couldn't tell any difference. They both are quick.

Yes they do sound diffrent... The series I and the series II/III engines have a sound all their own... There are diffrences in valve spacing, Port locations, valave sizes, Exahust manifolds and on the 94 + bonneville there was a resonator added to kill of some of the resonance around 2000 rpms... Everything makes a diffrence...

That is simply a function of the age and condition of the starter and battery in each car, nothing to do whatsoever with what series the engines are.

Back on topic.....

As jr's3800 and I have pointed out, there are MAJOR differences between the Series1 and Series2 in both mechanical design and operation, as well as noise-abatement attempts and technology. Most modern cars are carefully designed to not make noise, but computer controls and idle characteristics are modified to meet modern EPA pollution standards, so cold idle in order to warm the car up quickly for emissions purposes will sound very different.
