SLE = Sport Luxury Edition
SSE = Sport Sedan Edition
SSEi = Sport Sedan Edition initial

-In this case, initial does not mean "letters"
-After 1995, SLE trim level was canceled. After that, it was available as a "package" on the SE models only. With that package you get Automatic Climate Control, H-type Exaust, Traction Control, and I don't know what else.
-For more info on what the SLE package contains, ask L27Buick.

I'm sorry if I caused any confusion.
Of course, the trim level names can mean anything. But usually, they are all around the same meaning of the above replies. (Except for the Sit Down and Shut up thing).
Another argument would be just for the sake of uniqueness. You see, most of the European car companies label their trim levels with numbers. (like Mercedes *-Class 400; *-Class 430; *-Class 55 and *-Class 600).
Now again, these are just hypothesis.

That is great I love that one. What SSEI means Sport Special Edition induction meaning supercharged for the ( i ) meaning induction. Well at least thats what the GM dealer guy had told me when I first purchased my 93 bonne.
