i recall a thread somewhere else on here where others claimed that the Bonne only has a limiter in third, but that was different than the limiter in O/D...

Are the SSEi'* different than the others?
Interesting question. My guess is not.
2000 SSEi'* all have a 108 mph limiter in 3rd gear...about 4200 rpm and a 128 limiter in OD that works out to 3500 rpm.
My educated guess is that the GM engineers and Warrantee people don't want the engine revving at high rpm for extended periods.....might have something to do with cooling.
