Default something IS wrong.

i had to drive the bonne yesterday and today and i used $10 in gas at 2.20 a gal for 16 miles and now the low fuel light is back on. damn car.

check for a rusted line or possibly a hole in the tank. Sounds like this is an issue when it is running and not sitting (cause you'd notice the puddle of gas then) so I would assume it is a line that has a hole in it.

That, or someone siphoned it out when you weren't looking.

Check the mileage properly. Where you on an angle etc...

There are too many factors. Fill it up...all the way. Reset odometer and then about 1/2 tank fill back up and calculate your mileage.

It is possible your O2 sensor is going bad...but merely checking the way you are mentioning isn't a good enough check.
