Default SHOULD I BUY?? '96 Bonneville SSEi - 168k miles

hey everyone, i'm a new member of this group as of five minutes ago. i love bonnevilles and think i finally found a reasonably priced SSEi. it'* a green '96 with 168k miles. i haven't even driven to the dealer'* yet but am going to tomorrow. i was wondering if you have any opinions........like what to stay away from! at this mileage, etc. i'd greatly appreciate some help 'cuz the only Bonnie I've ever owned was a '91...years ago.

WELCOME TO BC!
Could you clarify what "reasonably priced" means? I would personally be leery of buying a car with that many miles on it.
Make sure to run a CARFAX, in fact, PM me the VIN and I'll run one for you, I've still got some left on my subscription.
If you do decide to go for it, make sure you see if the seller will let you take it to a GM dealer for a pre-buy inspection. This will turn up most problems and give you a good idea of what kind of money you'll really be spending for this car.
If the seller says "No, you can't take my car to a mechanic," the ntell him then and there to shove it up his butt, cause something is BAD wrong with it. Take it from me, I know from where I speak. I didn't do my homework when I bought my Bonnie, and I got shafted.

No. Its Bonneville related so this is where it goes. What are they asking for it? If its in good shape the price should be no more than $3500.

With 168k on it, no way should it be as high as $3500. For that, you could shave a few thou off the miiles and still get a decent car.
Again BJoe, PM me the VIN and I'll get you a CARFAX.

in all reality, i bought my 96 SSEi with 99,000miles on it for 7300$ ..so do you really think an extra 68,000 miles destroys almost 4,000$ ?? it'* a toss up. 3500-4000 is probably ball-park. Check the previous owner and see if it was an old lady if it was well maintained.. that L67 should still be pumpin .. haha. I'm sure my car will have around that mileage before i intend to get a new car. oh yeah.. what shade of GREEN is it?? I hear 96 produced this really cool green/blue paint? check that out if u look at the car again!

That'* a lot of miles. My 97 is just hitting 75,000. No way this was driven by an old lady! That type of miles means this car has been driven a lot! Any components that wear with miles are going to be near the end of their life. If you plan on owning the car for any length of time, you can plan on replacing the drive train while you own it. I'd have to tell you to buy a Bonnie with less miles.

Welcome to the club, I would toss a carfax at that sucker, but those are REALLY high miles for that year. Look around first, if you don't see anything, chances are it will still be there.
