If you don't care about speed but want a new Bonneville why not get the last year SLE?

First of all, don’t overpay for a GXP. In July 06 I paid 23,500 for my 05 GM certified with 7500 miles and 2.5 years of factory warrantee. No sunroof so that probably dropped the price a little. Check and see what CarMax is charging for various GXPs, and don’t pay a penny more to anyone for a similar car. And really you should be able to get a better deal if you are willing to walk.

Mine is a 100% reliable daily driver. It runs and drives beautifully. I’ve put 8000 miles on it and not added a drop of oil or changed it – it’* not yet down to add on the stick. I did have to take it in for the steering shaft and foglamps.

My GXP will smoke both front tires anywhere from ½ way to almost all the way through first gear if I stomp it off the line with the TC off. It could barely light a tire when I first got it, so I don’t know what the deal is. There doesn’t seem to be much torque management going on, but who knows. I run 32psi in tires so maybe that is a factor (it hooks better with more tire pressure). I never run anything but premium. I will post numbers as soon as I can get track times.

I agree completely with Turbo Coupe. Be carefl not to overpay, there is no reason to. If you go in knowing your stuff, in fact, you can get a super deal.

I concur with the "runs and drives beautifully". I kind of knew I would like it before I got it because it was a Bonneville, but I am completely surprised by how much I like it. The styling is perfect, the suspension is awesome, and the power is great.

But again. Drive both and judge for yourself.

The car has been pretty nice with minor repairs. I love it. Now I'm looking at a 2005 GXP from a dealer that has 14k miles on it. The GXP is an immaculate one- owner car that I've researched and like. Here'* the issue:
Most performance car owners are proud of their stuff and rarely bad mouth their own cars no matter how lousy they really are. I see a lot of complaining about the reliability and quality of the GXP on this forum. I loved my SSEi, but should I stay away from the GXP. This car will be driven daily by my wife, and I need something that isn't in the shop all the time. Your honest advice please......
A few things that will make you want to buy this car...
-the suspension...man does that thing hold the road well
-the V8 & exhaust...oldschool but yet refined V8 rumble and great torque. Beautiful engine and the 4-speed transmission has been top notch for me.
-the looks....I get so many compliments on my bone stock crimson GXP that it'* ridiculous. Everybody simply loves the car, guys & girls.

As far as reliable, there really aren't any major problems with the car. Chances are these issues have already been looked after but I'll post to make you aware.
-there is a voluntary recall on the intermediate steering shaft (basically, if it knocks for you, take it to your GM dealer and they'll swap in a new, revised part)
-there was a spec problem on the fog light wiring harness. Failing to get the harness replaced will cause your projection fogs to burn out within 0.5 - 1.5 years I've found. If you mention the specific recal notification for this problem GM will replace this wiring harness (since I've had mine changed the fogs are in top notch condition for over a year)

Those are really the only two problems that I have (and other have had) with this car. Not really huge problems if you ask me but they do prove to be an inconvenience until you get them fixed. I absolutely love this car and much prefer it to a 2003 530i bmw just as a comparison. It handles better, it'* got more power and just plain looks better.

It'* just so sexy!

A Canadian GXP above, eh?

That is exactly my crimson, except I have charcoal interior and US gauges.
That is a beautiful set of pics!

I've had the exact same experience with mine.
Had intermediate shaft changed.
Had fog light wiring harness changed (two months no problems)
TONS!!! of compliments
Handles like a DREAM.
The grumbly V8 is awesome. Pull up to a punk in a Honda and rev away!

Let'* not turn this into Your Ride with the big pics. We need to go back to the original post and answer the questions.

Yup, Canadian. Other than my car, I've only seen 2 other Bonneville GXP'* on the road, and 2 at autoshows. The exclusivity is why I think people like it. My one buddy thought it was a 4-door GTO when I first showed it to him. He had no idea what it was until he read the badge.
