Default scan with laptop!

I know this has been asked before, Hell I think even I asked it before. I have been searching but did not find any answers yet.

I am looking at getting OBDI and OBDII cables that I can hook up to my laptop ( probably USB on my new laptop, or serial on my old laptop), and good software that I can use.

I just want to be able to scan the car when the light comes on and be able to clear the code.

I have seen a couple of code readers on the market for around 200$ CAD, but they are just code readers and do allow you to clear the codes. BUT seeing how I do have 2 laptops I would like to use software and see it on screen.

Any thoughts? I have found OBDI info and OBDII but not one solution that does both on a laptop.

You'll need seperate setups for each one. with OBD 1 you can build your own cable pretty easily.

So then for my Malibu I am better of going with this http://www.myscantool.com/

For only 99$ and it comes with the software. And for the Bonneville I will stick with that 10$ scanner I had, which is basically the glorified paper clip, lol.

I too, seek what you seek. Both for the 93 and the 95. I'm wondering how compatible the OBD2 software is with the 95????? I already have an Actron for the 93, but that'* the car I'd REALLY like to go laptop based on.

Before I go and order this, has anyone looked at the link I provided above??

http://www.myscantool.com/

it is 99$ US

You get the software that allows you to see why your engine light is on and clear the codes,
you can check it for emissions testing ( before you go in so you know if it passes or not),
you can monitor sensors in real time,
use it as an oscilloscope and monitor 4 sensors at a time,
Virtual drag strip with
60 Foot Time

0 - 60 MPH Time

1/8 Mile Time and Speed

1000 Foot Time

1/4 Mile Time and Speed

Time slips can even be printed or saved to file!

AND work like a dyno.

Along with the hardware you need to connect to your car. The only offer the OBDII right now, cause I asked them for OBDII and OBDI.

I think it'* not a bad deal for 99$, plus I already have a spare laptop that I can use for this, or use my new laptop too.

Just looking for some feedback.

Yes he can do both but at 700$ ( the way he sits right now, talking with him on YIM) that is too much $$$. So 99$ it is, LOL. And for the Bonneville it will be that 10$ scanner ( glorified paperclip).
