They are more accurate that radar because they are able to single out a car instead of the whole radar beam hitting all three and having to distinguish which one is faster.

I was told that parts of the laser beam bounce off of your car and scatter, therefore sometimes your detector can go off even if they haven't hit you.

Also remember that most radar guns now days are instantaneous now as well, just not as focused as the lasers. Most cops know pretty much how fast cars are going anyways...so they wait for one that they think is going fast enough for them to write a ticket for, then they "activate" the radar gun....and tada, you are nailed and your radar detector didn't make a sound until it is too late. And by that time you are so close that that thing is screaming loud.

UUhhh no, it really is not. Cops who mainly pull people over for speeding (not excessive) are jerks I see them every morning, they are in the best spots too, and by best spots i mean most likely people will be going to fast, to get out of lanes and pass cars to get onto the off ramps, or 10 feet behind the speed sign that says 35 after it has been 45 for almost 20 miles- any way its not luck at all it would be smarter if you said that statisticly you could be pulled over. No suck thing with luck with cops. **** the police.

There'* only two ways to protect yourself, and even then you are not fully protected (they can pace you or get you by aircraft).

1) Buy a good radar detector. I think the Valentine (www.valentine1.com) is the best (just my opinion), but its $400. Escort makes a nice unit as well. I haven't had a Bel since the 745STI so I can't comment on its sensitivity.

2) Buy a laser jammer. Lidatek (www.lidatek.com) makes a great laser jammer but it too is ~$400. I have this on another car and it works very well. Unfortunately it is not portable and must be mounted in a bumper.

It'* your call....if you do a lot of driving during rush hour there isn't much to worry about, but if you are driving with low traffic volume you really have to be careful.
