1993 SLE , I see what you are talking about, and it'* black on my car. My Caprice has a stock black one for oil, and a stock aluminum colored one for the tranny. This along with the RPO code led me to assume mine was the oil cooler.

Now that you have told me mine is in fact my tranny cooler.... where is this so-called oil cooler located?

do a tune up, take the TB apart and clean it. Run some Seafoam or TEC through the car, you will be surprised at how much better it runs.

I thought the tank in the radiator was for the tranny... I am asking about the engine oil cooler , according to my RPO code.

When I bought the car, I was assuming it was a tranny cooler, but that darn RPO got me wondering, and assuming wrong. lol Now, I'm obsessed with finding out more about the so-called engine oil cooler.. I'm curious to know if it'* any good, or if it'* just an option that does nothing much. I find it interesting since my other car has both, and the engine oil cooler on that car is just like the tranny cooler....in front of the radiator, next to the tranny cooler. Since my car has a tranny cooler, and that'* what I'm seeing.....I have to wonder where the engine oil cooler is, and why, and how it is different than the tranny cooler idea..... I have to go have a good look under the hood as soon as I get time, and it'* daylight too... lol..

Thanks.
