Default Public Service Announcement: Check your undersides!

Just a reminder to check for rusty bolts, especially around your control arms.

Ive been hearing a cracking noise anytime the car would rock sharply back and fourth or side to side coming from the back lately, so I did an inspection and this is what I found:

Apparently it turned to rust and the bolt wore it all away. It was a bigger repair than anticipated, but $200 dollars later at the shop she'* back on the road.

So make sure to thoroughly inspect your undersides every once in a while!

Much better, and cheaper, than having a subframe break off the unibody.

Glad you got it fixed before something bad happened.

Ive had a situation on this same car 2 years ago on the OTHER control arm where the rusty bolt got knocked off after my mom got hit sideways in the parking lot, but the control arm didnt break off the subframe until a week later when I backed her out on the driveway. Thankfully it was there and not on the expressway. That was a $100 dollar repair.

So count that as 2 good anecdotal reasons why you should always inspect your undersides!
