That is because they weren't far enough along in design/engineering stuff to pass GM crash regulations for a schedule that would allow production in 83 so they had to skip the 1983 production year.

mine was made in Aug 95 I believe.

Mine has 07/04 in the door jamb and its a 2005 SLE, because it has the right body style lol. Yes it is common to start the model year early, very early look at the new Tahoe and Yukon there are some 07'* buit in 2005!
